![]() Thank you for your warm welcome to the parish. I look forward to working and praying alongside you. Building on the good achieved by Fr. John during his ministry amongst you is of the utmost importance to me. A word of sincere thanks to our Parish Secretary Margaret O’Donovan who has been tremendous and hardworking since the sudden death of Fr. John. She has had outstanding help and support from Con Diver. The parish has rallied round and the Parish Council, the head teacher Mr. Justin Dachtler from St. Teresa’s School with Jesus in their midst, have been truly inspirational. WELL DONE & THANK YOU TO ONE AND ALL. Canon Michael Scanlon At the Sacred Heart Church, Edge Hill, Wimbledon on Saturday 15th December from 10.45 – 5.00pm.
Advent is a very special season of the year – and yet it can sometimes pass us by, because we’re so busy preparing for Christmas. For the past couple of years, our diocesan Spirituality Commission has produced a series of short daily emails, to help us focus on the true meaning of Advent. These have been very well received, so we would like to make more people aware of them. To sign up, please visit www.southwarkdsc.org.uk.
![]() Today we begin four weeks of preparation for the great festival of Christmas. Advent reminds us all of the arrival of Jesus into the world, his presence today is just as essential as ever. During Advent, the dominant colour is purple. The Advent wreath on the sanctuary helps to guide us through this lovely season. The 1st Candle represents the prophets of the Old Testament. The 2nd Candle represents John the Baptist who came to prepare the way for Jesus. The 3rd Candle is for us the people of God, the recipients of God’s message of love. The 4th Candle is for Mary, the Mother of the Redeemer. Let us use this great season to prepare a sacred place worthy of the infant King. |
