May Eva Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory.
![]() We offer our condolences to the family and friends of Eva Sereny. We keep her in prayer as we journey to the day of her funeral, Wednesday 16th June. Eva’s life was rich in blessings. Born in Hungary, Eva launched her career during the late sixties here in London, photographing legendary figures from the era, Marlon Brando, Paul Newman, Sean Connery to Audrey Hepburn and Raquel Welch. The quality of her images enabled her to travel the world, her work being featured on the cover of major international magazines like Life, Vanity Fair, Newsweek, Time – her work was seen as outstanding. She also won a BAFTA for her short film The Dress. Eva was living out the final years of her life in Rome, Sydney and here in London. She had wonderful support from Frank Charnock who like many others will miss her very much. May Eva Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory. The new model of support, offered by the The Agency for Evangelisation and Catechesis and developed with Archbishop John, entitled Some Definite Service, is intended to provide direct and practical support for people engaged in evangelisation, catechesis and adult formation.
How could your parish benefit from Some Definite Service, our response to Archbishop John’s call to be an ‘evangelising and missionary archdiocese?’ No parish is the same and we have a rich and diverse range across the diocese. We want to recognise all the good work that is already being undertaken and then reflect together to see the areas where growth is possible. For more information, please visit: aec.rcaos.org.uk/sds. Free advice for people living in private rented homes Monday June 14th to Sunday June 20th.
People living in private rented home are much more likely to have problems with disrepair and high rents and less likely to know their rights. That is why I am asking for your help in letting the members of your community know about the Renters Rights’ Awareness Week being organised by the pressure group, Generation Rent, between June 14th and Sunday June 20th. Attached is an information sheet with details of sessions between 6 and 7pm each evening giving advice on getting help with paying the rent, getting repairs done and what to do if you are threatened with eviction. The fact sheets are available in a number of different languages and links to the advice sessions are available by signing up online to www.generationrent.org/rights. It is a scandal that one in eight private rented homes in England are unsafe to live in. Overcrowding and poor housing conditions are significant safety concerns which will be effecting the health, safety and wellbeing of many in your community. If you would like any more information then please do not hesitate to contact me at any time by calling me on 0207 219 4678 or emailing me at [email protected]. ![]() Next Saturday (12th June) – 2pm to 3pm Refresher Course A new Rota System will be in place as we welcome back our Altar Server Teams. Though St. Anthony first joined the Augustinian Order, he eventually left it when he was 26 years old and joined the Franciscan Order around 1220 in the hopes of becoming a martyr for his faith. Through his work in Padua in Italy, he became a loved and admired Saint in the Catholic Church, sharing the faith through simplicity — which led to him becoming a Doctor of the Church. St. Anthony’s Feast Day is traditionally celebrated on June 13th, but you can pray a novena to him any time. He is often invoked for helping to recover lost items, among other intentions.
