We’re excited to announce that the biggest Catholic youth event in the UK is returning to London, as CYMFED organise Flame 2023. We hope that Southwark will take a group of 500 young people to this wonderful event. The theme of Flame 2023 – which is exactly 150 days before World Youth Day in Lisbon – takes the WYD Scripture ‘Mary arose and went in haste’ and crystallises it into the theme, ‘Rise Up!’
Rise up after the pandemic, Rise up as young Catholics, Rise up – as Mary did – for the surprising and beautiful adventure that is our Catholic faith. St Teresa’s parish has a limited number of tickets for £10 (tickets normally £25), please see the parish office . For all Flame information please visit https://aec.rcaos.org.uk/latest/flame2023 In these weeks leading to Lent, each of the Gospel readings we listen to at Mass are from Matthew Ch's. 5, 6 and 7, contain some of the most powerful of Jesus's teachings. At the same time, our Sisters and Brothers at the Archdiocese of Southwark led by our Archbishop John Wilson continue to encourage us through the words of Saint John Henry Newman "God has created me to do Him SOME DEFINITE SERVICE". We are all called to learn, live and teach the Good News. We are called to Evangelise, to Catechise, to give Formation. The Gospel readings place that calling:
Happy are you ... (from 4th Sunday) You are the salt of the earth ...You are the light of the world ... in the sight of men ... seeing your good works, they may give the praise to your Father in heaven (from 5th Sunday). Please continue to watch this space for further steps towards Some Definite Service. ...is the day the church focuses on the need to oppose racism and pursue racial justice with renewed vigour. The theme for Racial Justice Sunday is: “All are included in the mission of Christ and His Church. Let us walk together, pray together and work together”. It reflects the role each of us must play in promoting the mission of Christ and His Church. This was inspired by conversations around last year’s Racial Justice Sunday and Pope Francis’ visit to Canada in July 2022 when he spoke about looking towards a future of ‘Justice, healing and reconciliation’. https://www.cbcew.org.uk/racial-justice-sunday/
Please remember in your prayers those who have died recently, Beverly Coughlan RIP, whose funeral took place last week, Deacon Fred Carter RIP, whose funeral is to be held on Wednesday 8th February at St John Fisher and Kenneth Ellis, the father of Fr. Robert Ellis who was an Assistant Priest here at St. Teresa’s. Remember also, those in our parish family who are in care homes, sick or housebound, especially all those on our Parish Sick List.
