Thank you all so much for all your kindness and generosity. It was very good to be back with you to celebrate my 40th anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood. I owe you all a great debt for the fine example of parish life and the support you give in prayer and in so many other ways. As we sang in our recessional hymn, ‘who from our mother’s arms hath blessed us on our way with countless gifts of love, and still is ours today’. Thank you for the countless gifts of love.
For those who attended the meeting last week and for those who were unable to attend, please collect a copy of Canon Michael's response, available in the Contact Corner. Registration forms for Eucharistic Ministers are still available from the Parish Office or the Church Sacristy. The "Take and Eat" booklet can be obtained from the Parish Office.
It is with immense joy and gratitude that we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Canon Michael's Ordination. Over the past four decades, Canon Michael has exemplified unwavering dedication, profound wisdom, and a deep commitment to the church and especially the Sick & Housebound. His leadership, compassion, and spiritual guidance have touched countless lives, inspiring us to walk closer with God and with each other.
From the bottom of our hearts, we extend our warmest congratulations and heartfelt thanks to Canon Michael. May this milestone be a reminder of the incredible impact you have had on our parish family and beyond. We look forward to many more years of your blessed ministry, thank you! We will continue the celebration as a parish today, following the 11am Mass with a reception in the school hall, please do join us. If you would like to contribute to a collection to thank Canon Michael and commemorate this occasion, you may still do so. Please place your donation in an envelope marked "Canon Michael" and hand it in at the parish office. We thank God for the graces and blessings we receive from all those who dedicate their lives to the service of Jesus and His Church. May Our Blessed Mother watch over all priests and religious in their service to the world today. We are delighted to announce our plans to enhance and enrich the Parish Eucharistic Ministers Ministry. This ministry plays a vital role in our community's spiritual life, and we are committed to ensuring that it is carried out with reverence and dedication.
In Good Standing with the Church: As we seek to grow our team of Eucharistic Ministers, all interested individuals must be in good standing with the Church. This includes being actively involved in parish activities, regularly attending Holy Mass, being an Adoration Devotee, and adhering to the teachings of the Church. We believe that maintaining a solid connection with our faith community is crucial for fulfilling the responsibilities of being a Eucharistic Minister. Take and Eat Course: We support the Southwark Diocese's "Take and Eat" course to prepare our new Eucharistic Ministers for their essential role. This comprehensive booklet offers a deep dive into the significance of the Eucharist, the duties of a Eucharistic Minister, and practical guidance on serving during Mass. All new Eucharistic Ministers will be provided with this valuable resource to read and study, ensuring they are well-equipped for their ministry. Commissioning Day at the Cathedral: Before the Commissioning Day at the Cathedral, all prospective Eucharistic Ministers will undergo a period of discernment and reflection. This time allows individuals to deepen their understanding of the Eucharist and discern if they are called to serve in this capacity. The Commissioning Day in October is a sacred and symbolic event where the Bishop will officially commission new Eucharistic Ministers from many parishes to carry out their ministry within the parish. Your parish clergy may approach you privately to invite you to join the team. As we strive to strengthen the Parish Eucharistic Ministers Ministry, we invite all who feel called to this ministry to step forward and join us on this faith journey. Together, let us deepen our connection to the Eucharist and serve our community with love and devotion guided by the teachings of the Church. Registration Forms are available from the Parish Office or the Church Sacristy. The Take and Eat Booklet is obtainable from the Parish Office. It is an offering that may be small, but is of great symbolic value: It expresses the sense of belonging to the Church and love and trust for the Holy Father. It is a tangible sign of communion with Him, as Peter’s Successor, and also of attention to the needs of the most disadvantaged, for whom the Pope always cares.
